The Linda Todd Scholarship

20141018_200623This Scholarship is named for Branch member – Linda Todd, who provided 18 years of inspirational outstanding service and dedication to the AAUW Virginia Beach Branch local scholarship program.   She is a graduate of East Carolina University; a retired middle school Language Arts and Social Studies teacher; an avid reader, as well as an accomplished hiker.  Above all, she is an active advocate for women and girls achieving their educational and career goals.  She was a Virginia Beach Branch co-president for two years and the local scholarship chair for 18 years. The Linda Todd Scholarship is awarded each year to an outstanding re-entry Virginia Beach female resident, enrolled in an accredited two or four year institution.  The program is supported by Branch member donations and occasional fundraising events.

One of the main goals of the Virginia Beach Branch is to help advance the education of women.  The local scholarship was established in 1994 to provide funds for a student currently enrolled in an undergraduate program.  At least one $500.00 scholarship is offered each spring to a Virginia Beach female resident who has returned to school after a lapse of time.  On May 15, 2013, it was renamed “The Linda Todd Scholarship” in honor of her dedication to the branch  local scholarship program. The Virginia Beach Branch has presented  63 scholarships as of 2024, representing almost $37,000.
